Before this trip, neither of us had ever been on a cruise.
Like many first-time cruisers, we had plenty of questions before boarding. Would we enjoy being at sea for a week? Would there be enough to keep us entertained? And most importantly, would cruising live up to all the hype we’d heard over the years?
After spending seven unforgettable nights sailing the Eastern Caribbean with Celebrity Cruises, we can honestly say it exceeded every expectation.
Departing from Port Canaveral in Florida, our itinerary included Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and St. Kitts & Nevis – three incredible destinations that each offered something completely different.

The Best Part? Unpacking Once
One of the biggest advantages of cruising quickly became clear.
Instead of checking into multiple hotels, navigating airports, or spending hours travelling between destinations, we unpacked once and woke up somewhere new almost every day.
It felt like the perfect combination of a luxury hotel, floating resort, and Caribbean adventure all rolled into one.
And let’s talk about the food, because Kamil was living his best life. One of the biggest perks of cruising has to be the endless dining options available throughout the day. Morning pastries, poolside snacks, indulgent dinners, and yes—even pizza in the middle of the night. Why not? Safe to say Kamil made the most of it, and it quickly became one of our favourite parts of the entire experience.

Life Onboard: More Than Just A Cruise

From the moment we stepped onboard, we were blown away by the ship itself.
With endless ocean views, stylish lounges, incredible dining options, entertainment, and plenty of places to simply relax, there was always something happening.
Beyond the incredible food, we quickly discovered that life onboard is as much a part of the holiday as the destinations themselves. From morning activities and poolside relaxation to quizzes, games, live entertainment, and spectacular theatre shows in the evening, there was always something happening.
Whether we were enjoying a morning coffee overlooking the ocean, watching the sunset from the deck, or exploring the ship between destinations, every day felt completely different.
One of our biggest surprises was how much we enjoyed the sea days. We expected to spend most of our time looking forward to the ports, but having a full day to relax, enjoy the ship, and simply watch the endless ocean pass by turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip.

Whether you wanted a packed schedule or a completely relaxing day at sea, the choice was entirely yours. It honestly felt like a floating resort where boredom simply doesn’t exist.
Puerto Plata: A Tropical Welcome

Our first stop was Puerto Plata, located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic.
We arrived into Taíno Bay, and even the port itself immediately set the tone for the day – colourful, lively, and full of Caribbean energy right from the moment we stepped off the ship.
One of the unexpected highlights here was seeing what we can only describe as the best Christmas tree in the tropics. It felt slightly surreal standing in warm sunshine surrounded by palm trees while looking at festive decorations, but it added such a fun and unique touch to the experience.

Beyond the port area, Puerto Plata delivered exactly what we had hoped for – mountains, palm trees, and that classic Caribbean coastline we’d been dreaming about.

The colourful atmosphere, warm weather, and relaxed island lifestyle made it the perfect first port of call and set the tone for the rest of the cruise.
Next came San Juan, Puerto Rico – and it quickly became one of our favourite destinations.

Walking through the colourful streets of Old San Juan felt like stepping into a movie set.
The pastel buildings, cobbled streets, vibrant culture, and incredible waterfront views made every corner feel effortlessly photogenic. It’s the kind of place where you don’t really need a plan – you can simply wander and keep discovering something beautiful around every corner.
We found ourselves stopping constantly for photos, cafés, and little moments just to take it all in.
San Juan also turned into another amazing foodie stop for us. From indulgent drunk cookies to freshly made empanadas, everything felt full of flavour and character. And of course, it was here that we really leaned into the Caribbean lifestyle with a proper piña colada – which somehow just tastes better when you’re drinking it in the place it was made for.

If you’re someone who loves discovering beautiful cities while travelling, San Juan is a destination that absolutely deserves a place on your bucket list.
St. Kitts & Nevis: Caribbean Paradise

Our final stop was St. Kitts & Nevis, and it ended up being one of the most surprising and eye-opening destinations of the entire cruise.
We had the chance to explore both sides of the island, and the contrast was striking – from more local, everyday areas that show the reality of island life, to beautiful stretches of coastline, luxury resorts, and even world-class golf courses. It really gave us a much deeper sense of the island beyond just the postcard views.
One of the absolute highlights was stopping at Timothy Hill, where you can literally see the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea meeting on either side. The view from there was unreal – one of those moments where you just stop talking for a second and take it all in.

It was a destination that felt both beautiful and real, and a perfect final chapter to our first cruise experience.
Why We’d Recommend Cruising To Anyone
What surprised us most about cruising was how effortless everything felt.
Every detail was taken care of, allowing us to focus on enjoying the destinations, the onboard experiences, and spending quality time together.
For travellers who want to see multiple destinations without the stress of constant planning, cruising offers a level of convenience that’s difficult to beat.
Final Thoughts
Our first cruise with Celebrity Cruises completely changed our perception of cruise holidays.
From waking up to ocean views every morning to exploring three incredible Caribbean destinations in one trip, it was an experience we’ll never forget.
Puerto Plata, San Juan, and St. Kitts & Nevis each brought their own unique charm, while the ship itself became a destination in its own right.
We boarded as complete cruise beginners and left wondering why we’d waited so long to try it.
If you’ve been thinking about booking your first cruise, consider this your sign. We certainly don’t think it’ll be our last.
